Disarming a potential new customer’s doubt and developing a way for them to trust in you and invest in your carpet cleaning business presents a genuine challenge to most honest carpet cleaners especially if you are considered expensive.
When I was cleaning carpets I was the second most expensive carpet cleaner in my state and it was a constant challenge to gain the trust of a new customer especially when every other carpet cleaner was in excess of 350% cheaper than I was.
So what did I do that generated so many new carpet cleaning jobs I couldn’t handle the intense overflow?
There was one small thing I changed when a customer called for a quote that worked so well I could hardly believe it. It still amazes me even today. The results took me from turning over less than fifty thousand dollars a year to over three hundred and seventy four thousand dollars in the very next twelve months.
Here’s what I did
When a potential customer called and asked for a price I had a standard series of quick and easy questions that built instant trust and led me to a face to face quote that worked so well (over 98% of the time) it got me a flood of new bookings every single day. When you’re in the home of a potential customer you can build rapport, trust and you stand a much better chance of getting the job at a much better price.
Here’s what I asked over the phone that gave me so much success when they said those horrid words…how much do you charge:
• Just so I can help you better do you mind if I can ask you a couple of quick questions please? They always said yes.
• My first name is Mark…and yours is? They always gave me their name.
• Mary tell me please…When was the last time you had your carpets cleaned?
• Do you remember if they were they dry cleaned or steam cleaned?
• Do you know what type of carpet you have?
• Roughly how old is the carpet?
• Do you get a lot of people walking on your carpet every day or is the traffic minimum?
• Mary as you know it’s very difficult to give you an honest or even rough price over the phone because I’m unable to see your carpets and I really want to do the right thing by you. So with your permission it would be my absolute pleasure to come out and give you a FREE no obligation quote in writing…Mary would you feel comfortable for me to do that for you?
• Well Mary tell me please what is the address you would like me to come to?
• And what is usually the best time for you?
• Fantastic…and what is the best contact phone number to get in touch with you?
Well thank you for calling me I really appreciate your call and I’m really looking forward to meeting you on Tuesday between 3:30 and 4:30pm. Now if you need to contact me here is my business number 0000 0000 and here is my personal cell number if you need to call me direct 0000 0000.
Thank you Mary…Bye now.
If you think because these simple questions are just too simple they won’t work for you then you couldn’t be further from the truth. If you like then you are welcome to copy the questions above word for word but please remember to read them and memorize them…most importantly you should learn to speak slowly and clearly when talking to any customer. Doing so will develop trust much easier and much, much quicker.
