A Bit Of History
The person behind this world renowned wax museum is Marie Tussaud. She was introduced to wax modelling by Dr. Philippe Curtius, a physician who has interest in wax modelling. The first few wax figures created by Tussaud include Voltaire, jean-Jacques Rousseau and Benjamin Franklin.
Marie Tussaud continued the legacy of Curtius in the field of wax modelling. She went to London and started showcasing her works on Baker Street. The intricacies of her creations made her works a click to audiences. Marie Tussaud made a wax figure of herself, which now stood at the entrance of Madame Tussauds. In 1925, there was a fire that destroyed several of the wax collections in the museum. These wax figures were remodelled using the moulds that survived the fire.
