Are you feeling anything?
Normally, the heartbeat of a healthy adult is an average of 72 times per minute. Are you ever acutely aware of your heart beat during the day, being able to feel it through your chest? Except for those who practice meditation, most are not aware of their heartbeat. However, if you have an arrhythmia, you may be more aware of your heart beat than normal, experiencing other symptoms such as anxiety, light-headedness, dizziness, fainting, and sensations of fluttering and pounding in the chest. When undergoing these symptoms it may be useful to think ahead, and perhaps decide to treat your arrhythmia problem with nutritional supplements and vitamins designed to target arrhythmia.
Have some more coffee?
If you've been drinking a lot of coffee lately, that may be the reason for your heart arrhythmia, In some studies, excessive caffeine consumption has been associated with irregular heart beats and heart palpitations. Caffeine does not have this effect on most people; however, some healthy people have shown to be affected in this way by as little as one cup of coffee. Another possible culprit for heart arrhythmia is allergies to foods or chemicals in the environment. It would be a good idea to get tested in order to eliminate these causes.
There are certain vitamins that are known to be effective to calm a heart beat and ease heart palpitations. Some recommended nutritional supplements for arrhythmia are magnesium, fish oil and cod liver oil.
Avoid the Pacemaker
If you are experiencing palpitations without other symptoms, and your doctor has confirmed that you do not have a valve disorder or other structural heart problem, this usually means that the palpitations are benign. If you are concerned about your symptoms however and think they may need further examination, you should make an appointment with a cardiac specialist. Surgery may be necessary in the most advanced cases. A pacemaker may need to be implanted when a normal rhythm cannot be established by medical intervention. (There is also a newer procedure called radiofrequency ablation which is used to destroy small areas of the heart responsible for arrhythmia). By keeping fit, eating a healthy diet, and taking other preventative actions, you can avoid getting a pacemaker.
